As an adult, I realized that I was under utilizing mint.  Growing up, I was quite familiar with this herb as my grandmother had several bushels of spearmint in her garden.  It wasn’t unusual for her to make spearmint tea during the winter or when one of her grandchildren wasn’t feeling quite well.  A hot spearmint tea helped settle my tummy on several occasions.

While most grocery stories carry spearmint in their produce isle, I was amazed to find in my research that there are several varietals.  Although I am not familiar with all the mint varieties that exist, I have tried chocolate mint, spearmint and peppermint.   If you have the chance to try chocolate mint, it is absolutely lovely.

While I do not use mint often in my cuisine, I recently integrated the herb in a Watermelon Gorgonzola Salad.  The salad is paired with a Mint Lime Dressing that is made with my Mint Simple Syrup recipe.

NOW THAT I HAVE SHARED A COUPLE OF WAYS TO USE A MINT SIMPLE SYRUP, LET’S GET TO THE RECIPE!

How to Make Mint Simple Syrup

This recipe yields approximately 14 oz of Mint Simple Syrup.  Once prepared, the syrup should be cooled and stored in a new and clean Mason jar.  The syrup is delicious in salad dressings, lattes, mocktails, cocktails and more.

Not only can this Mint Simple Syrup be used to make a Mint-Lime Dressing, but it can also be used to add a lovely and refreshing sweetness in cocktails.
